Spirited Snowmen

I suspect as you are reading this the weather where I am in Cuba is much nicer than the weather we were having last weekend when I was creating this post.  Last Saturday morning, the wind was blowing really hard, taking most of the autumn leaves with it and leaving behind our first taste of winter in the form of falling snow.  It didn’t last for long and there wasn’t any that lingered on the ground, but it sure made me think that soon we’ll be bundled up nice and warm to go outside and have fun like this little snowman from the Spirited Snowmen stamp set.

Look how adorable the images in this 8 piece stamp set are!

This is one of the cards we made last month at our Stampin’ Sister’s Holiday Hoopla.  Peggy designed this one using Night of Navy and Smoky Slate.  The snowman’s accessories are colored in with Stampin’ Blends.  I love how she added bit of the Braided Linen Trim which resembles a knitted scarf when you see it up close.

How to CASE a Card!

You’ve probably hear the term “CASE” before, but do you know what it means?  It’s an acronym that stands for Copy And Share Everything.  Today I’m going to show you an example of how to CASE a card!

I knew I wanted to use the Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper, because of the rich “Christmas-y” colors and the metallic accents in the paper.  I also knew I want to pair it with the coordinating Merry Merlot & Copper Reversible Ribbon and the Peaceful Noel stamp set which are all part of the Joyous Noel Suite of products.  From there, I had no particular thoughts about how I wanted the card to look, so I started thumbing through a box of cards I had previously made and came across a Z-Fold card featuring the Country Home stamp set and the Country Lane DSP (both part of the Country Lane Suite).

As you can see by comparing the two cards, I simply swapped out the Crushed Curry card base with Shaded Spruce and the matted layers of So Saffron and Blackberry Bliss with Sahara Sand, Whisper White and Merry Merlot.   The Designer Paper squares gave me the inspiration for the color combinations of the cards.  Instead of the stamped banner on the Harvest card, I went with the Merry Merlot Ribbon and shifted the focal point (sentiment verses the Floral bouquet) to the center rather than the far left.

The moral of the story is…

if your creative mojo goes missing, pick up a card you’ve previous made or maybe one you’ve seen online that you like and CASE it by changing up the colors, the Designer Papers, the stamp set or whatever to make it your own and before you know it you’ll be back in the groove again.
