Painted Autumn Gift Card Holder

Yesterday was my annual Customer Appreciation Party.  I treated everyone that was able to make the event to a set of six card featuring the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper and some fall stamp sets.  I also made a little gift card holder for everyone, so I’m going to share the directions for that with you today.

…the top slides up to reveal the gift.  You could easily attach a gift card to the recipients favorite store and swap out the paper to make it look like a birthday or Christmas present.  The sentiment on mine says “I thank you for your part in m journey” which is the precise reason I host my customer appreciation party.  The sentiment comes from the Paisleys & Posies stamp set and is stamped in Cajun Craze ink.

Measurements:

Cajun Craze: 4-1/4″ x 3″ scored at 1-1/2″

Peekaboo Peach: 3-1/2″ x 7″ scored at 3-1/2″

Early Espresso: 2-1/2″ x 4-1/4″

Very Vanilla: 3/8″ x 3-1/2″ for banner

Painted Autumn DSP: 1-1/4″ x 4″ and 1″ x 3-1/2″

Jute Twine: 18″

Instructions:

  • Emboss one side of  Peekaboo Peach cardstock with the Quilt Top Embossing Folder and fold on score line.
  • Attach 1″ x 3-1/2″ piece of Painted Autumn DSP to Peek-a-boo Peach as shown in the second photo.
  • Attach Tear & Tape along two outside edges of Peekaboo Peach as shown.
  • Attach 1-1/4″ x 4″ piece of Painted Autumn DSP to Cajun Craze as shown in the second photo.
  • Fold Cajun Craze on score line and attach Tear & Tape along two outside edges of Cajun Craze as shown.

  • Peel backing off Tear & Tape and close Peek-a-boo Peach to make a pocket.
  • Insert Early Espresso piece inside Peekaboo Peach pocket.
  • Peel backing off Tear & Tape and close Cajun Craze to make the lid (making sure not to get the Peek-a-boo Peach pocket stuck in the lid.
  • Make a triple bow from the Jute twine and attach to the “lid” with a Mini Glue Dot
  • Stamp sentiment on banner and snip notches on each end.
  • Curl the banner with a bone folder and attach with Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals.

This week in Wisconsin, we’ve seen then weather start out feeling like summer and now it’s definitely feeling like autumn.  There are leaves falling all over our yard and you can smell the scent of fall in the air, so I thought it was appropriate to share an autumn greetings card with you today.

Today’s Color Palette

This is one of those rare times, where I have not followed my general “Rule of Three”.  That rule is every card should have texture, layers and embellishments.  I didn’t follow the rule, but this card still works because of it’s simplicity.  So, let’s take a look.  The front of the card is Very Vanilla that I cut 4″ x 6″ and scored at 1/2″.  The card base is a 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ piece of Cajun Craze.  I stamped the Autumn Greetings from the Seasonal Lantern stamp set in Early Espresso ink.  Next, I cut out three of the small leaves from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits with each leaf falling in a different direction. I added texture to the front panel by embossing it with the Woodland Embossing Folder.  That’s all there is to this card, other than attaching the Very Vanilla card front to a 5-1/2″ x 4-1/4″ piece of Cajun Craze card stock by folding the Very Vanilla piece on the score line and attaching this flap to the backside of the Cajun Craze.  This does two things:  1. It allows you to see the Cajun Craze through the card front where the leaves were cut out and 2. By having the front panel 1/4″ narrower than the back it provides for a border strip of Cajun Craze to show on the left side of the card when the card is closed, adding more visual interest.

Today’s Color Palette

I added some beautiful texture with the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder on the piece of Whisper White cardstock.  The Stitched Shapes Framelits gave me the faux stitched look on the Whisper White square that the Life is Short sentiment is stamped on.  To embellish the card a bit more, I added a bit of Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon.
