The first snow fall of the season.

Yesterday was a great day spent with my sister Peggy.  Although we talk 2-3 times a week it’s been over a month since we’ve seen each other and that’s just far too long.  We chatted, stamped, ate, and prepped for the Expo we’re teaching classes at next weekend.  Just after dark I started the 1 1/2 hour drive home.  Of course that’s when it decided to snow our first real snow fall.  We’ve had a little dusting a couple days already, but this time the snow stuck around.  As I was driving and the snow was swirling across the road, it made me think of this card we had made at Stamp & Go club this past week.

The “Ornamental Pines” stamp set was stamped in Versa Mark and heat embossed with White Embossing powder on Night of Navy card stock.  I used my Blendabilities to color right on top of the Embossed pine needles and pinecones. I love this look because we don’t generally get to see vivid colors on dark card stock.  Next I inked up the “splatters” from “Gorgeous Grunge” (this set is a must have in case you didn’t know) in Versamark and stamped all over the card stock including directly over the previous image and all over the card stock.  I heat embossed once more with White Embossing powder and there you have the first snow fall of the season.

I’ve been working on the railroad…..

I love the way this card turned out, first of all  because it’s a masculine card and I honestly don’t make that many of them.  Secondly, because it has a worn vintage feel to it, and my most favorite thing about this card is it reminds me of my dad.  He worked on the railroad for 42 year before retiring.  One of the very last days before he retired he arranged to have my kids “drive the train”.  They were about 5 and 7 years old then and they loved every minute of riding in the front of the train and blowing the whistle every time the train went through an intersection.  So this card will be set aside for now until I send dad his birthday wishes in February. Let’s just hope I can remember where I put it then.

I stamped the “World Map” background stamp on Very Vanilla card stock and then rubbed a sponge dauber with Soft Suede ink over the entire piece to give it the aged look.  The train image is from the “Traveler” while the tickets in the lower right corner come from “That’s the Ticket”.  I used the same aging technique on these pieces as well.

Fall Fest: Take Home Kit

Fall Fest was a day long retreat where we provided all of the projects to keep the stampers busy all day.  But we are also wise enough to know that some people are super fast stampers, while others like to move at a more relaxed pace.  For this reason, we created a “Take Home Kit” which was in their goodie bag at the beginning of the day.  The idea here was if they had time and chose to, they could work on their take home kit at retreat.  If they didn’t have time or chose not to work on it during the day, they had the color photos and printed instructions on how to make the four cards we created.
These cards were ones we designed using the Watercolor Winter Simply Created Card Kit.  In case you lost count, that’s 3 projects from the one Simply Created kit (and 2 kits had enough supplies in it for 5 people to make the three projects).
