So Santa & Buffalo Checks

As you may have noticed, I took a little break from posting due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Once again, we hosted at our house but it was a much smaller gathering than past years (only 9 people instead of the normal 21).  I didn’t go out shopping for Black Friday as I’m not into crowds, but I did put away all of my fall decor and cleaned up and got ready for Christmas decorating which I started on Saturday.

Stampin' Studio

I pulled out many of my favorite Christmas decorations and added some new things this year too.  I have really been drawn to the red and black Buffalo Checks, so I made a new tree skirt using it.  I love how it coordinates with the bow on the wreath I’ve had for a few years.

I had extra fabric, so I also made a table runner and some throw pillows to tie the look all together.

One of my favorite things I come across each year when I pull out the decorations, is this picture of Nicole and Michael with Santa.  this was taken 22 years ago, when they were trying to find out if this was the “Real Santa”.  I decided to highlight the photo, so I grouped it together with this old 3-tiered tray I had and some greenery, and a clay Santa I had made years and years ago.  Notice, he’s got a Buffalo Plaid shirt on …and this is where my inspiration for my stamping came from.

I decided to pair the So Santa stamp set with the Buffalo Check Background stamp and Voila’, this is what I came up with.  I love the whimsical Santa who has just finished baking a plate of Christmas cookies.  The Red & Black Buffalo check together with the pine boughs from the Pretty Pines Thinlits ties back to my Christmas decorating this weekend.

While I was busy in my Stampin’ Studio creating this card, I decided to keep going, and I created two more cards that coordinate with this one.  I’ll be sharing those on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Ombre Stamping with the Happiness Surrounds stamp set

With just 10 days remaining until the Snowflake Showplace products are gone for good, I thought I’d share one last card that uses one of the products from the suite.  This card uses the Happiness Surrounds stamp set which is a very versatile set that I used with a technique I call Ombre Stamping.

Getting Started

Let’s start first with the Petal Pink background which I embossed with the Seasonal Wreath Embossing Folder.  I thought it would be perfect to add texture behind the focal point without being distracting.  After stamping “congratulations” in Sahara Sand along the bottom edge and stamping off before adding the decorative images on either side of “congratulations” I attached the 3-3/4″ x 5″ Petal Pink layer on a 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″ piece of Whisper White which was then attached to Sahara Sand card base.

Ombre Stamping Technique

Take a close look at the “medallion” that was stamped in Petal Pink.  Can you see the variations of the pink color on the image?  Tat’s my Ombre Stamping Technique and it’s very easy to achieve.  First I inked up the image with Petal Pink and stamped it off once on scratch paper.  Next I used a Sponge Dauber to apply Petal Pink ink to the outer edges of the image by “pouncing” the sponge dauber first on the ink pad and then carefully around the edges.  This allows the second application of color to blend into the ink that remained on the stamp after stamping off.  Finally, I stamped the image on Whisper White and cut it out using the Stitched Shapes Framelits which I then attached to a Sahara Sand scalloped circle cut from the Layering Circles Framelits.

Finishing it Off

Using the smallest circles from both the Stitched Shapes Framelits and the Layering Circles Framelits, I cut the Whisper White and Sahara Sand layers, that highlight the sentiment.  To make the card “just a bit more special” I added small pieces of the Petal Pink Metallic Ribbon (from the Metallic Ribbon Combo), Whisper White Polka Dot Ribbon, and Silver Metallic-edge Ribbon behind the smallest circles.
