Sailing on Lily Pad Lake

Last weekend we were finally able to get out sailing.  The summer has been so crazy that this was our first chance all year to get out there.  Either the weather has been raining, or thee hasn’t been enough wind or we’ve been tied up with other things.  It was so wonderful to be out on beautiful Lake Mendota in Madison.  I was inspired to create this card after a day out on the lake.

Creating the “water” background was  really easy.  I used an Aqua Painter and picked up some Pacific Point ink and watercolored it on Shimmer White cardstock.  On another piece of Shimmer White cardstock, I stamped the boats from Lilypad Lake stamp set in Pacific Point, then colored the boats with Real Red and Pacific Point Markers and used the watercolor technique for the water.  I then punched the sail boats outwith the 2-1/4″ Circle Punch.

To Create the “life ring” I punched a 1-1/2″ circle from Real Red cardstock then I punched a second circle outside the first using the 2-1/4″ Circle Punch.  I wrapped a 3″ piece of Whisper White Bakers Twine around the ring in 4 places to make it resemble a life ring.  This was then centered over the boats and popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Rooted in Nature Pop Through Card

Summer flies by way too fast, so it seems a little wrong to be making a card that’s truly  got an autumn feel to it but this card really shows off the versatility of the Rooted in Nature stamp set.  I’ve created a “Pop Through Card” using the big stately oak tree in the set.

I started with a color palette that reminds me of the cool days of fall when the leaves are all aglow with every shade of orange.  To give the tree this multi colored look, I first used the Soft Suede marker to color the tree trunk, then I used Sponge Daubers to “pounce” different colors in a random pattern over the top of the tree.  I used Cajun Craze, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler. Once the tree was stamped I cut it out with the Nature’s Roots Framelits and then did the same thing to make a duplicate tree for the pop through feature.  The opening in the card was die cut with the Lakeside Framelits and the Mango Melody layer has texture added with the Subtle Embossing Folder.  A strip of the Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper along the lower edges and a few leaves from the Nature’s Root’s Framelits tied up with Linen thread finish it off.

Nature’s Poem Suite

Here’s another card made with the Nature’s Poem Suite.  The sentiment is perfect to use as a thank you or birthday or congratulations and more.

I think this card is rather gender neutral in that it could be masculine or feminine due to the color combination that comes directly from the Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper.

I made my own embellishment on the card by using the Champagne Foil Paper and two of the dies from the Nature’s Roots Framelits.  First I used the die that cuts the leaves shape, then I ran that piece back through the Big Shot with the piece that embosses and voila’, I’ve got the perfect embellishment.  I finished it off with the Nature’s Twine, which I unraveled and tied into a bow and attached it to the leaves with a Mini Glue Dot.
