An Unexpected Autumn Sympathy Card

I’m guessing most people would think that the Jar of Haunts stamp set would be appropriate for a sympathy card.  I would have to agree with that thought unless you chose to use the pumpkin and pair it with the Suite Seasons stamp set.  What you end up with is an unexpected Autumn sympathy card.  I used the Petals & Paisley Specialty Designer Series Paper and the coordinating ribbon from the 3/8″ Ribbon Trio Pack.

Delightful Dijon:  8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″

Cajun Craze: 4″ x 5 1/4″

Petals & Paisleys DSP: 5 1/4″ x 2″

Delightful Dijon Ribbon: 6″

Watercolor Paper:  Scrap to cut Oval

For this card first I attached the DSP to the bottom edge of the Cajun Craze card stock.  Next I attached the ribbon to cover up where the DSP and card stock meet and wrapped it around the back.  This layer was then attached to the card base.  I stamped the pumpkin from Jar of Haunts in Stazon ink so that I could water color with my Aqua Painter and Cajun Craze and Old Olive ink.  The sentiment from Suite Seasons was stamped in Cajun Craze and the oval was cut out using the Layering Ovals Framelits.

Suite Season is a perfect sentiment stamp set

As you page through the Stampin’ Up! catalog which stamp sets tend to grab your attention first?  Most likely its the sets with an image that catches your interest first.  I want to remind you to slow down and take time to really look at the stamp sets that are sentiments only.  We’ve got some really fantastic sentiment sets.  Take for example, Suite Season which has sentiments for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and more.  That’s why Suite Season is a perfect sentiment stamp set.

Start out by attaching a piece of Halloween Night Designer Washi Tape to the lower edge of the Basic Grey card stock.  Layer this on the card base.  Next attach the three strips of Halloween Night DSP to the Basic Black layer allowing for 1/8″ border all the way around.  Attach this layer on the Pumpkin Pie card stock and attach this to the card.  Stamp the sentiment from Suite Season in Basic Black ink on the scrap of Whisper White and punch it out with the 2″ Circle Punch.  Attach this piece onto a piece of Basic Black that has been die cut with the Big Shot and the Layering Circle Framelits.  The final step is to attach the sentiment layer to the card front with Stampin’ Dimentionals.

Super Simple Saturday with Holly Berry Happiness

That’s right, we’re going to make a super simple Christmas card for Super Simple Saturday with Holly Berry Happiness.

Holly Berry Happiness

Today’s Color Palette

colors-68

I decided to change things up a bit today.  Instead of using Real Red and Garden Green as expected for a traditional looking Christmas card, I swapped those shades for Melon Mambo and Wild Wasabi for a more contemporary twist.  What do you think?

Ready, Set, Cut

Wild Wasabi: 11″ x 4 1/4″ score at 5 1/4″ for card base

Scrap for Holly Leaves

Whisper White:  3 3/4″ x 5″

3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″

Melon Mambo: 3 5/8″ x 4 7/8″

Scrap for Holly Berries

This card is so super simple.  Layer Whisper White on card base followed by Melon Mambo and the smaller Whisper White.  Next stamp two leaves from the Holly Berry Happiness stamp set in Wild Wasabi on the scrap of Wild Wasabi and punch these out with the coordinating Holly Berry Builder Punch.  Stamp the berries from the same set in Melon Mambo ink on the scrap of Melon Mambo and punch these out.  Now all you have to do is stamp the sentiment (also from Holly Berry Happiness) in Melon Mambo on the front of the card and add the leaves and berries by popping them up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  See what I mean by Super Simple?  Oh yeah, don’t forget if you order the stamp set and the punch together in the bundle you save 10%.  Gotta LOVE that!  This would be a great card to mass produce and of course if you prefer the more traditional Christmas colors you have my permission to change things up.  What colors do you like to use for your Christmas card making?  Are you traditional or do you like things a little out of the box?
