Making the Most of your Designer Series Paper

Today’s card shows you one way to make the most of your Designer Series Paper, specifically the Candy Cane Lane DSP.  I used the designer series paper as a background layer that the ginger bread house is on which is really cool because it looks like it’s snowing.  The ginger bread house is not a stamp, its part of the print in the Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper.  That’s right, I did a little fussy cutting around the house, and popped it up with dimensionals.

Ready, Set, Cut

Crumb Cake:  5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ score at 4 1/4″ for card base

Early Espresso:  5″ x 3 3/4″

2 1/4″ x 3 1/3″

Real Red: 4 3/4″ x 3 1/2″

Candy Cane Lane DSP: 2″ x 1 /4″  plus a piece that has the ginger bread house on it

Real Red 3/4″ Stitched Edge Ribbon:  6″

For the base of the card layer the Real Red on the Early Espresso card stock then layer on the card itself.  Fussy cut the ginger bread house from the DSP and attach to the “snowy” crumb cake print with Dimensionals and layer this on the Early Espresso card stock.  Tie a knot in the ribbon and wrap it around the ginger bread house layer securing it on the backside with adhesive.  Attach half of a Delicate White Doily to the back side of the house layer and secure this entire layer to the card base with Dimensionals.  Finally, stamp the sentiment from Stitched with Cheer in Real Red ink and die cut it with the Bunch of Banners Framelits and attach to the card with Dimensionals.

Turn your sentiment into the focal point

Very often we’ll use texture in the form of an embossing folder or some embellishment.  Patterned paper is a great way to add interest to a card.  And every now and then, it’s perfectly okay to turn your sentiment into the focal point on your card.  That’s exactly what we have going on with this card which features many of the items from the Petals & Paisleys Suite.

Ready, Set, Cut

Night of Navy: 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″

Night of Navy: 5″ x 2 1/2″

Night of Navy: 1 1/8″ x 3 1/8″ for banner

Delightful Dijon: 4″ x 5 1/4″

Petals & Paisleys DSP: 4 7/8″ x 2 3/8″

Very Vanilla:  1″ x 3″ for banner

The Delightful Dijon card stock was run through the Pretty Paisleys Textured Embossing Folder and attached to the Night of Navy card base.  Next the DSP was layered on the Night of Navy card stock and off set on the card front.  For the banner the sentiment from Paisleys & Posies was stamped in Night of Navy ink and punched into a banner with the Banner Triple Punch.  This was attached to the Night of navy layer which was than trimmed by hand to be just slightly larger than the Very Vanilla banner.  The banner was then attached to the card with dimensionals and there you have it… a card without a lot of fuss where the sentiment is the focal point.

Jar of Haunts: Old Fashioned Halloween

What is the quintessential Halloween candy?  It’s got to be Candy Corns, right?  Whether you like the taste of them or not, you can’t help but think Halloween when you see them.  For today’s card I thought I’d go with an Old Fashioned Halloween feel by using the Candy Corns found in the Jar of Haunts stamp set.

Halloween Night DSP  Pumpkin Print : 1″ x 3″

After stamping the candy corn image on the Whisper White card stock and coloring them in with Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight Markers, I stamped the sentiment also from the Jar of Haunts set.  The image was punched out with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch and layered on a 2″ circle of Basic Black.  Each of the banners was punched with the Trio Banner Punch and the twine was wrapped around the pumpkin print before attaching all the banners to the card.  The three black embellishments along the bottom right are the Rhinestone Jewels which I colored with a black Sharpie marker.
