Butterfly Basics Stamp Set

This is a card I received as a swap that showcases the Butterflies Thinlits and Butterfly Basics stamp set.

Bokeh Technique

Bokeh: pronounced “Boh-ka” is a term used in photography which simply means fuzzy or out of focus.  That is the technique I’ve used on todays card for the background.

I think it makes a stunning background for this fun birthday card featuring the Stars Framelits, the Itty Bitty Banners and coordinating Bitty Banner Framelits, Bermuda Bay Sequins and Rhinestones.

I started with a piece of Whisper White cad stock and used a sponge dauber to apply “splotches” of Lost Lagoon ink in a random pattern.

I then used Blackberry Bliss ink the same way to fill in the remainder of the card stock so that all of the white was covered up.

I made a stencil from Window Sheets and the 3 smallest circles from the Circle Collection Framelits (again, just a random pattern)

This next part can start to get a little messy, but it’s where the magic starts to happen.  Using Whisper White ink, a sponge dauber, and the stencil, I applies the ink on the card stock in a circular motion.

I moved and repositioned the stencil numerous times overlapping circles filling up most of the Last Lagoon and Blackberry Bliss.

Once I was happy with the coverage of white circles, I finished it off with just the inked up sponge dauber inking random circles with the head of the dauber itself making the circle.  After I let this dry, I applied some more circles with the stencil to add depth to the background.

It’s a fun technique to paly with and figuring out different color combinations makes for some awesome backgrounds.

Shadow Box Fold

Today I’m sharing a fun element for a card or scrapbook page:  It’s the Shadowbox Fold and it’s much easier than you think.

For the Shadow Box Fold I started with a 4″ x 4″ piece of Park Avenue Designer Series Paper.

Next fold it in half horizontally and vertically so it leaves a “cross” in the paper with a center point at the intersection.

Now take each corner and fold it up so the point touches the center where the horizontal and vertical folds intersected.

Now take the top point of the triangle and fold it down so that it meets the folded edge of the triangle.

Do this to each of the triangles and there you have it…

…a Shadow Box fold that you can insert a sentiment and embellish a card or scrapbook page.
